How to improve your firm's website in 10 easy steps

In order to make sales, surveyors' websites should generate leads, build trust with their audiences, share expertise, and attract new talent. The cornerstone of your digital marketing strategy is your website. In this article, Surventrix wants to help you and your business make a big impact.

As a digital communication tool, it is also important. Visitors to your website want to know who you are, what you do, and how to contact you. It's often their first contact with you - either indirectly by reading your content, or directly by chatting with you.

If you're a surveyor that's curious if a website can help you, it's likely that what you have isn't working.

In this article, Surventrix has outlined 10 actionable steps you can take to improve your website.

1. Assess your current position

Based on the table below and the five key elements described in the report, where would you rate yourself? As your baseline for improvement, make a list of your strengths and weaknesses.

2. Make your headers more appealing

The process of rewriting your entire site can seem daunting at first. You can improve findability and user experience by tweaking your headers across your homepage and service pages. It's important to explain exactly what you do - users are busy and want to know that they've come to the right place.

3. Include clear action steps

Ensure that your users know where to go. Use buttons that stand out in a bright color, with clear text such as 'Get a quote'. Consistent colors will remind users that something is clickable. You should make the second button more neutral if you have two buttons.

4. Identify the pain points of the user

Your website is used by people who are seeking solutions to problems. Your fixed copy should reference questions your clients and prospects frequently ask. Don’t be afraid to state the obvious, and demonstrate empathy and understanding. You need to have a solution for busy people.

5. Decide what you want to accomplish

Usability plays a role here. Describe your process, what you need from people, and what to expect. No more than four steps should be taken.

People want to feel comfortable when they buy. Make your 'how we work' call to action as straightforward as possible.

6. Make your voice heard

Nobody wants to read something that sounds like it was written by a surveyor (except maybe other surveyors).

Take a moment to consider how you'd like to come across, and use that as a guide to your tone of voice. Your audience will understand you if you speak directly to them in a language they understand.

7. Check to see if your design hinders SEO

Optimize your images for a quick fix! An image plays an integral role in the design of a website. However, if they're large, they'll slow down your website.

Make all images on a single page no larger than 250KB by compressing them using sites like tinypng.com.

8. Obtain testimonials

It's all about trust - and nobody can sell you to new clients better than your current ones. Consider using a review platform or highlighting case studies on your website to feature testimonials. The experiences of others are important to people.

9. Communicate at the top of the priority list

Make sure your contact information and the areas your business covers are easyily found.

If you make it easy for people to contact you, you'll be surprised at how many leads you'll receive. Whenever you list phone numbers or email addresses, make them clickable (for mobile, too). You can also take advantage of other channels, like live chat, by prominently displaying this information.

10. Obtain feedback from others

Do what you’re proficient at, and don’t spend hours putting together a blog or tinkering with colour palettes - ask a professional to do it for you.
